“It’s the best time to buy a used car”
Every crisis is an opportunity. So says Alberto Príncipe, president of the Chamber of Automotive Trade, who admits that the prices of vehicles with “some years” did not recover as did the 0km.
The sale of used cars had a fall of 2% in July, a figure that was lower than expected in the dealers, taking into account that the 0km patents since June have fallen 18 percent.
According to sources in the sector, this smaller retraction is due to the fact that the prices of the used ones have not yet increased, and today they face a bigger gap compared to the new ones, which increased in the last months by 40% as a result of the devaluation.
In July, as reported by the Chamber of Automotive Trade (CCA), 153,219 used vehicles were sold in the country, a decrease of 2.46% compared to the same month of 2017, when 157,087 units were sold. Compared with June (131,185 units), the rise reaches 16.80%. In the market they were prepared for a drop of up to 10 percent.
In the accumulated of the first 7 months of the year, the volume reaches 1,027,544 units, a growth of 6.07% over the same period last year, when 968,785 vehicles were sold.
“Julio surprised us. We expected a fall that did not exceed 10% but it was 2.46%. In these first seven months of the year, we had so many economic changes that changed our expectations and the rules of the game in the sector, “said Alberto Príncipe, president of the CEC.
Today this market of used cars is the best option for buyers
“0km cars have been rising at an important rate since the end of April (between 20 and 25%), because they can not be behind the dollar, but the counterpart is that the used car sector, which would have to accompany the increases, inexplicably for now he does not. Undoubtedly, this situation will not continue on a permanent basis. Today this market is the best option that buyers have before this opportunity. I always say that crises create opportunities, this is one of them, “added the director.
By models, the best sold in July was the Volkswagen Gol, with 10,772 units, followed by the Chevrolet Corsa with 7,074 and Renault Clio, with 4,766 operations. Then there are the Ford Fiesta, Fiat Palio, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ecosport, Ford Focus, Ford Ka and Ford Ranger.
